DCHA’s Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) assists more than 3,000 families in a tenant based rental assistance program. Clients find and rent privately owned rental units. Tenants pay 30% of their income for rent. DCHA makes a Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) on behalf of the tenant to the property owner for the difference between the tenant portion of the rent and the HUD established fair market rent, subject to Rent Reasonableness considerations.
