Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program

The Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program is offered to current participants of the Section 8 and Public Housing programs. Any adult member of the household may sign up for FSS. You do not have to be currently employed. Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) is a “goals” program. You will receive assistance from the FSS Coordinator who will identify your goals, needs and any problems. We then break down your goals into steps, which allows you the opportunity to work on them at your own comfortable pace. The FSS Coordinator provides support, referrals, information, etc. that will assist you in achieving your goals. While participating in the FSS program you will have the opportunity to earn a FREE Savings account. This account begins when you become employed or when you have increases in your earned income. This account becomes available to you upon your successful completion of your goals. It can be used as a down payment to purchase a home, Education or any worthwhile investment in your future.

In order to complete the FSS program, each participant must complete the goal listed on the Individual Services and Training Plan within five years from their enrollment date. The appropriate documentation must be given to the FSS Coordinator as proof of achievement of your goals. Before completing the FSS Program, you must seek and maintain employment for 6 consecutive months prior to their 5 year enrollment or less. If applicable, the FSS participant must become free of welfare cash assistance for 12 consecutive months prior to the end of the program.
